The Martinez Historical Society was established in 1973 to save an 1890's cottage located in downtown Martinez. Convinced that the City's history deserved a repository where papers, documents, photographs and artifacts could be housed, the society prevailed upon the City of Martinez to join in acquiring use of the "Borland House" for that purpose. A lease was obtained from the Contra Costa College District, and the Martinez Historical Society took possession in February 1974.
The Martinez Historical Museum is located downtown at 1005 Escobar Street. For information about visiting the museum, please call 925-228-8160.
