Building

In July, the new 2019 California Building Standards Code was published and will take effect on January 1, 2020.

CODE CHANGE DEADLINES THAT MAY IMPACT YOUR PERMIT

In order for your project to be reviewed under the current 2016 Building Code, your project will have to be submitted, accepted and all plan review submittal fees have to be paid by the deadlines.  Beat the rush and submit early!

If you are planning on a January submission, be advised that the 2019 Building Codes will apply to all new permit applications.

The Building Department issues building permits to homeowners and contractors to regulate construction within the City limits. We work closely with the Planning and Engineering Divisions to help maintain a small-town feeling while ensuring that modern-day building safety requirements are met.

All contractors must have a current business license before permits are issued.

Building Permits
Building permits are issued Monday – Thursday between 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Friday’s 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and are based on the current edition of the International Building Codes. These codes are followed not only to protect your health and safety, but that of your property investment as well. If improvements have been made to your home, evidence of a building permit and final inspection of the work is often necessary to obtain financing or sell your property. The Building Department is located at City Hall at 525 Henrietta Street, Martinez, CA 94553.
