Statement from the Mayor, on behalf of the City Council

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Martinez resident Todd Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a longtime member of our community, and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

The Martinez Police Department’s swift and professional response led to the arrest of a suspect. The Department’s continued investigative work is essential as our community seeks accountability. We are grateful for the Department’s ongoing collaboration with the County District Attorney to prevent the release of the suspect that could compromise public safety. Thank you, also, to our community members that provided leads, and to our allied law enforcement agencies for their partnership.

We fully support the Martinez Police Department as they continue their investigations and work to ensure the safety of our community.
