The City of Martinez is proud to proclaim February 2026 as Black History Month.

The 2026 national theme for Black History Month, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” marks the 100th anniversary of the first Negro History Week established in 1926 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, honoring a century of intentional efforts to recognize, preserve, and elevate Black history, culture, achievements, and contributions that have shaped the nation’s social, cultural, and civic life.
