On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at approximately 1:41 pm, Martinez Police Department received a report of two adult females in a physical altercation at an apartment complex on Fig Tree Lane. Officers were enroute when callers advised that someone was stabbed. Officers arrived at 1:44 pm and found an adult female lying in the parking lot, unconscious.

Officers provided initial medical care and were quickly relieved by ConFire resources. The victim was transported to John Muir Walnut Creek and was later reported deceased.

The suspect was located in the area and detained by officers. After an initial investigation, the suspect was arrested and booked at the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of murder. The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff Crime Lab assisted with processing the crime scene.

The victim was identified as Shaniyah Monae Kazee, age 19, and the suspect is Brittney Evanna Kazee, age 36; both are Martinez residents. The suspect is the mother of the victim.
