Free Eco-Friendly Workshops

Every year, the City of Martinez hosts free eco-friendly workshops for residents in support of resource conservation efforts and other Climate Action Plan initiatives.  Workshop topics include composting, water conservation, and sustainable living.  Todd Sutton, aka the “Waste Sleuth”, provides workshop attendees with an interactive learning experience, helping residents learn how to reduce their environmental impact.  Check out the 2016 sustainability workshop schedule below.

The City of Martinez is hosting free backyard composting workshops and offering high-quality compost bins for $58.  Composting your yard trimmings and food scraps is easy, great for your yard and garden, kind to the environment, and good for you too!  Save money, save water, and conserve natural resources.  Registration is required; Email compostrsvp@cityofmartinez.org to register today.

Advanced Sustainable Citizen: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to the Max

This advanced class is designed to inform and educate participants on the importance of sustainability by having a deeper understanding of the 3 R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.  This workshop will cover hard to recycle materials, plastics, and packaging.  You will learn simple and effective ways to incorporate sustainable practices in your everyday life that will benefit you and the environment.  This class is great for the whole family!  Registration is required; Email SCrsvp@cityofmartinez.org to register today.

Water Conservation Essentials: Every Drop Counts will soon be available for viewing on the City Channel.  The workshop is loaded with dozens of easy-to-do actions and practices, and includes the Top 10 Actions you can take to maximize water savings.  Plus, there’s information on the drought situation and mandatory restrictions.  Playback dates and times to be listed shortly.

Water Conservation 102: Greywater and Rain Barrel Systems, which was held in 2014, is currently being rebroadcasted on the City Channel. Watch the playback to learn about “laundry to landscape” greywater systems and how to install your own rain barrel catchment system.
