Ever notice you have accumulated way too much cardboard, Styrofoam, and plastic film packaging during the holidays? Good news, you're not alone, and if you are a Martinez resident, Republic Services and the City of Martinez are partnering on a free new drop-off recycling collection program after the holidays to give you multiple opportunities to recycle these materials! Including Styrofoam in these special collections is particularly significant, since these materials do not have a viable market to support recycling through the curbside collection process.
On Saturday, January 13th and Saturday, January 20th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Republic Services will staff special recycling drop-off collections for Martinez residents at various locations throughout Martinez, as listed below:
Saturday, 1/13/18 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Alhambra High School (150 E Street)
Saturday, 1/13/18 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Golden Hills Park (end of Bernice Lane)
Saturday, 1/20/18 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Rankin Aquatic Center (100 Buckley Street)
Saturday, 1/20/18 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Hidden Valley Park (Redwood Drive and Center Avenue)
Participants must show identification demonstrating a Martinez residence, similar to the process for the free compost giveaways held twice each year.
Please ensure all materials are clean to avoid contamination. Styrofoam packaging cannot be accepted if it has been contaminated through direct contact with unpackaged food. Also remember to break down all cardboard boxes and place any Styrofoam "peanut" packaging or plastic film packaging in clear plastic bags to avoid flyaway litter.
