Volunteers in Police Service or VIPS volunteer for the City of Martinez and will have numerous opportunities to serve our community. VIPS will wear a distinctive uniform and drive a specifically marked vehicle when in the field, complete with police radio and mobile computer. Some of these opportunities include:
Neighborhood Patrol checks the city’s neighborhoods, parks and schools for graffiti, abandoned vehicles and other issues that when addressed, can make our community a better place to live.
Special Events volunteer at several special events helping to identify problems and will answer service questions.
Administrative Duties including Livescan fingerprinting, scanning police reports, filing and data entry of confidential reports and information, and more. VIPS will sometimes be called upon to distribute materials and supplies and will help supply patrol vehicles.
V.I.P.S. - Volunteers in Police Service – Recruitment Open
The Martinez Police Department is now accepting applications for Volunteers in Police Service. Potential candidates for volunteers must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- No felony convictions.
- Be able to pass a background.
In addition, volunteers must: Complete a City of Martinez application. Applications can be found on the city website, or at the city personnel office. Applications can be mailed or delivered to:

- Complete a final Interview
Only those who successfully complete the VIPS process will be eligible for selection. VIPS will be selected on an as needed basis.
