Mayor and City Council

Martinez is governed by a five-member City Council. The Mayor and members of the City Council are elected at large for a four-year term on an overlapping basis.

It is the responsibility of the Council to "ensure the welfare of the people of Martinez." To that end, they are empowered to pass ordinances and resolutions, approve the spending of money, and set general policy for the City.

The opinions of Martinez citizens are an important factor in helping the Council decide a course of action. Citizens are encouraged to contact members of the Council and attend Council and Commission meetings.

Mayor – Rob Schroder

 

 
 


Mayor Schroder graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.S. from the Haas School of Business.  After graduation he moved to Chicago and worked for the Home Insurance Company in the Commercial Casualty Underwriting Training Program.  After 1 ½ years he moved back to Walnut Creek and went to work in the family insurance agency founded by his grandfather in 1933.  Mayor Schroder became a Councilmember in 1996 and elected Mayor in 2002.

Councilmember  – Mark Ross

 

 

 

Mark Ross has served on the Martinez City Council since 1996.  He currently is the Vice Mayor.  He has also served as a Director on the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) since 2001.  His business is the Ross Company Realtors.  Ross Company Realtors manages real estate investments and conducts real property management. He is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley in English Literature."

 Councilmember  – Lara DeLaney

 

 

 

Lara DeLaney was born in Southern California and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  She attended U.C. Santa Cruz, studying Literature, graduated with Honors and earned an MA in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. 

Lara began her career as a Senior Regional Planner with the San Joaquin Council of Governments. In 1998, she was hired by Contra Costa County, as a Senior Management Analyst.  She presently serves as Senior Deputy County Administrator.

Lara is engaged in civic activities: Chamber, Kiwanis & Main Street.  Lara has achieved a credential as tennis professional and umpired at the 1997 U.S. Open.

Councilmember – Anamarie Avila Farias

 


  

 

Anamarie Avila Farias is a third-generation Martinez resident with 21 years public service. In addition to the City Council, she is a Governor Appointee on the CA Housing Finance Agency. 

Her career has been dedicated to Affordable Housing & Community Development programs including work for the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing & Community Development.

She serves on a League of CA Cities policy committee and is board member: Latino Caucus, Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall Aux.; and Democratic Assembly District 14 delegate.  She has earned an MS Information Systems, University of San Francisco (USF) and BS, Business Management, (USF).

Councilmember – Debbie McKillop

 

  

 

As a 4th generation Martinez resident, working professional and mother of twins, I am proud to call Martinez my home.  I also work in Martinez, bringing nearly 30 years of forensic science experience to my position as the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Forensic Crime Lab Manager.  My daughters attend Martinez schools and we are active in our local 4-H Club.

My academic achievements include: A Master of Public Administration from Golden Gate University, San Francisco; Bachelor Degrees in Chemistry and Environmental Studies from University of California (U.C.) Santa Barbara; and a Certificate in Forensic Science laboratory Management from U.C. Davis.
