Victorian homes, brick storefronts and two grand government buildings give this city on the Carquinez Strait a small-town atmosphere. It's also the birthplace of Joe DiMaggio and possibly the martini, and it's where John Muir spent his final years. In 1954, Marilyn Monroe celebrated her wedding to the Yankee Clipper with a reception here and a jaunt in his Chris-Craft pleasure boat, the Joltin' Joe.
